Jason Bradley DeFord (born December 4, 1984 in Antioch, Tennessee) is known professionally as Jelly Roll (sometimes written as JellyRoll). He is an American rapper known for his collaborations with Lil Wyte, Struggle Jennings, Tech N9ne, Merkules, and Ryan Upchurch. In Nashville, Tennessee, Jason DeFord was raised in the Antioch community on the southside.

Jelly Roll’s 2010 collaboration “Pop Another Pill” with Memphis rapper Lil Wyte reached over 6.3 millions YouTube views. This song led to the release of the hip-hop group SNO’s Year Round album. Released on the Hypnotize Minds label in April 2011, it was produced by DJ Paul. Juicy J. SNO’s song ‘Come Here White Girl’ was named among the 10 Most Memorable White Rapper Collaborations’ by XXL.

Jelly Roll released many mixtapes, including the Gamblin’ on a Whiteboy series and the Therapeutic Music series. Jelly Roll’s 2013 mixtape Whiskey, Weed, and Women was originally named Whiskey, Weed, and Waffle House. The change was made after the restaurant threatened legal action for using their name and logo on the cover. The replacement cover featured a ‘cease and desist’ stamp in place of the Waffle House logo.

Early Life

Antioch is where DeFord was born and raised in Nashville. His father was a meat salesman and worked as a bookie on the side. His mother suffered from mental illness and addiction.[8] DeFord was baptized at age 14, but says around that time he began ‘dabbing’ with drugs and stopped going to church. The same year that I was baptized, I was arrested, and that started what would be a 10-year cycle of incarceration in and out. From his teenage years to his twenties, he said. DeFord was arrested several times and spent time in jail for various charges. While imprisoned, he earned his GED at the age of 23.[8]

Career

He collaborated with SNO (BPZ and Lil Wyte) on his debut studio album ‘Year Round’ which was released in 2011. Gamblin’ on a White Boy 4 was released by him as his debut mixtape. His first album with Haystak, Strictly Business, was released by him.

2012 saw Jelly release the mixtape Mid-Grade Miracle (The Boston George Story). Her debut as a solo artist was on the album The Big Sal Story. He released the mixtape Whiskey, Weed & Women. Jelly in 2013. My collaboration with Lil Wyte on No Filter and Haystak on Business as Usual led to their success on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
